This Vegetarian ♥’s Hong Kong

Two of my best friends, whom I usually spend Halloween with, flew to HK last week, leaving me with a party-less long weekend! Boo!!! (And that’s not “Boo” in a halloween-y way.) I’m so jealous they’re both in one of my favorite food-tripping cities, so here I am, reminiscing about my trips (three, to be exact!) this past year. You’d be surprised how much vegan & vegetarian options Hong Kong has to offer!

Rice
Lai King MTR

Chanced upon this food kiosk because I was so hungry on the way to the city via train. Rice has delicious brown rice milk and a selection of vegan rice balls. My favorite is the one with satay.

Life Cafe

10 Shelley Street, Central, Hong Kong

I loooove Life Cafe. Never fail to visit this place when I’m in HK. They have a take-out bar on the ground floor and more dining tables on the second floor. When it’s full, though, we sit out front on the steps. They have lots of raw options, like this amazing salad!IMG_7290 This Vegetarian ♥'s Hong Kong

Premiere Pression Provence
Graham Street, Central

From Life Cafe, walk to the organic grocery store Just Greens on Graham street. Walk further down and you’ll see this: a mix-your-own olive oil shop!IMG_5890 This Vegetarian ♥'s Hong KongIMG_5896 This Vegetarian ♥'s Hong KongIMG_5898 This Vegetarian ♥'s Hong Kong

Graham Street Wet Market
Further down the road, you’ll spot the wet street market that sells some of the oddest things I’ve seen, like the giant cucumber!!IMG_5912 This Vegetarian ♥'s Hong KongIMG_5917 This Vegetarian ♥'s Hong Kong
Po Lin Monastery
Lantau Island
Take the Orange MTR line to the last stop, Tung Chung (there’s an outlet mall there!) and then right outside the terminal is the cable car that takes you to Lantau Island (about a 20-minute ride). Follow the signs to Po Lin Monastery, past the giant buddha, and you’ll spot a take-out deli/cafe for noodles and dimsum which you can eat at the park. There’s a ticket booth for the main restaurant where you can enjoy a 5 or 7-course vegan meal prepared by the monks in the monastery for HK$100 per person.IMG_4774 This Vegetarian ♥'s Hong KongIMG_4771 This Vegetarian ♥'s Hong KongIMG_4776 This Vegetarian ♥'s Hong KongIMG_7238 This Vegetarian ♥'s Hong Kong

Tung Fong Siu Kee Yuen
241 Hennessy Road, Wanchai
Pain in the ass to remember the restaurant’s name, but it’s the best Chinese vegan meal I’ve had.CIMG6237 This Vegetarian ♥'s Hong KongCIMG6235 This Vegetarian ♥'s Hong KongCIMG6234 This Vegetarian ♥'s Hong Kong

Nobu
Intercontinental Hotel

Not exactly vegetarian (it’s Japanese, so there’s lotsa seafood) but it’s a must-visit, especially if NY is too far for you. My favorite part of the meal was the dessert: Tofu tart with chocolate and orange tofu. Whuuut?? Genius!CIMG6360 This Vegetarian ♥'s Hong KongPC053441 This Vegetarian ♥'s Hong KongCIMG6373 This Vegetarian ♥'s Hong Kong

Caprice
Four Seasons Hotel (next to IFC mall)

Going on a date in HK? This swanky French restaurant is worth the visit (and the price)!IMG_4865 This Vegetarian ♥'s Hong Kong

I had some really good eggplant tempura there!

After writing about all these restaurants, I’m so tempted to just book tickets to go back for more food-tripping! I should just stop right here, haha. Enjoy the rest of the long weekend! 🙂
