I spent my entire Friday at RUB ribs&bbq in Tomas Morato, Quezon City. They gave me the task (and trust, haha) to re-write their chalkboards which feature menu highlights and bestsellers. Since it’s the first thing that customers see upon entering the restaurant, they wanted it to be spectacular, and at the same time, still relevant to their brand.
RUB serves “no frills American grub”. My friend Muffin pointed out that she hasn’t seen me ‘hang out’ so close to an open meat kitchen that long. Haha! But my clients Don Tayag & Chef Martin Kabigting fed me well and served me salad and pasta off the menu (minus the shrimp, bacon and sausage). Ahh, and there were thin & crispy onion rings with tangy aioli dip, too! Yum.
I started prepping the boards in the morning…
…and then later, we realized that we could take the boards down! Yay, easier for me!! Took a mid-day break from the chalkboards during lunch time because there were just too many people. And even though I don’t eat meat, the waiting line outside the restaurant could only mean that RUB’s grub is really good!
After finishing up 6 whole pieces of chalk, here are the new boards!

I opted to use white chalk for all the boards to give it a more rustic feel.
